The inspiration behind Urban Eden stems from the belief that true quality of life lies in simplicity and comfort. This belief is reflected in the design's unique properties. Instead of blindly emphasizing luxury, Ji Pan focused on enhancing the design's quality to explore and achieve a quiet and distinguished contemporary urbanity. The result is a tactile space that serves as a peaceful harbor for the tired soul, a place where people can return to themselves in a quiet and pleasant atmosphere.
The realization of this design was achieved through the use of elegant light gray tones, embellished with bright golden colors. The simplicity of the design is a blend of smooth elegance, an easy and free attitude, and a romantic spirit of abundance. The designer applied a large area of light-colored marble to the kitchen wall, floor, and counters in a modern geometric collage, matched with a warm copper-colored cabinet in a metallic shine. The open kitchen is full of intricate details but still shows its modern design.
The design also features a gray terrazzo basement floor inlaid with countless golden particles, presenting a gorgeous and dazzling visual effect. The furniture was chosen with a circular chamfer or to be round in shape, subtly creating a relaxed and delightful atmosphere in this sunken open space. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, reflected and scattered light from a bright swimming pool is brought into the room, transforming the original first-floor space into a standout area.
The design's interaction was carefully considered, with the designer altering the house structure according to requirements and function. The basement and first floor, once divided into several small private rooms, are now transformed into an open and transparent modern public area. The original first-floor stairs to the basement and second floor have been reset into one core tube, saving space and introducing light from upstairs into the basement, thus creating a brand new bright underground atrium.
Urban Eden started in December 2014 in Shanghai, China, and was completed in November 2016. The design, which was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, is a testament to Ji Pan's ability to challenge richness within simplicity in an urban modern approach, creating a tactile space that serves as a peaceful harbor for the tired soul.
This high-end residence combines the nature of the environment with contemporary urban life to explore and reach a quiet and pleasant atmosphere. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, the interior design idea tactfully brings reflected and scattered light from the swimming pool into the social area, creating a peaceful harbor for the soul.
